Scholarships and Grants Offered by TWS-WS

There are 3 funding options to help anyone with financial need attend the Western Section Annual Meeting:

  • (1) Early Career Professional $1000 Scholarships – Five scholarships valued at $1,000 each are available for Western Section members who have a relevant Bachelor’s Degree but are unemployed, underemployed, or employed outside of the wildlife profession.  We know it’s hard to land that permanent full-time position, and we want to help you advance your career by joining us and the rest of your colleagues at the Annual Meeting!  Annual Meeting Registration is included in the scholarship. You have the freedom to use the remaining scholarship value to cover the costs that fit your needs, whether it’s travel, lodging, or attending other fee-based Annual Meeting events.  Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and close on December 15, 2024. Application coming soon!
  • (2) TWS-WS Professional Members – Annual Meeting Registration Fee Waivers – The Western Section Annual Meeting is an incomparable opportunity for professional growth, and we want all TWS-WS members to have the chance to attend. For that reason, our Executive Board is offering a scholarship for Western Section professional members that provides FIVE  Annual Meeting Registrations valued at $299 each.  The scholarship covers the full Annual Meeting registration fee. All scholarship recipients are responsible for their own travel and lodging costs. The scholarship does not include registration for pre-conference events held in the days leading up to the Annual Meeting nor does it cover the optional add-on events.  Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and close on December 15, 2024Application coming soon!
  • (3) Students – Volunteer 8 hours in Exchange for Registration and Lodging Stipend Reimbursement: Students are encouraged to sign up for a volunteer position at the meeting.  Volunteers who work at least 8 hours are eligible for a full student registration fee reimbursement as well as fixed stipend reimbursement to cover lodging in a shared quad hotel room.  Applications are due by November 15th, and up to 24 students will be chosen for the program based on their overall schedule availability.  We will confirm acceptance into the volunteer program by December 1, 2024, and all volunteers will need to register for the meeting by December 13th to confirm their spot.  As soon as the conference concludes, reimbursements will be mailed or paid electronically to those who have fully completed their scheduled shifts.  Application coming soon!

Additionally, the Western Section of TWS awards both Grants AND Student Travel Grants to its members.

  • TWS-WS Professional Members – Grants In pursuit of the objective to encourage high standards of professional achievement, the Western Section has established an honoraria fund to assist our members’ participation in professional meetings, conferences, symposia and other continuing education activities. A professional may apply for both a meeting scholarship/fee waiver and a travel grant. The Section will award grants to its members up to a maximum of $2,000 (depending on availability of funds) for a single project or event. There is no grant award minimum. For more information visit our Grants and Scholarships webpage.  More Info:
